A clear indication of this impact is that his commentary on Aristotle's Physics was translated into Latin even before Aristotle's original text itself was rendered into that language. As is well known, Ibn Rushd composed three commentaries on Aristotle's Physics: the short commentary (al-sharh al-sa ghīr, Jawāmiʿ al-Samāʿ al-Ṭa bīʿī), the middle commentary (al-sharh al- awsaṭ, the Ṭalkhīs) , and the long commentary (al-sharh al-kabīr, the Ṭafsīr). However, what has come down to us from these works is limited to the Arabic text of the short commentary, the Latin translation of the long commentary, and the Hebrew translation of the middle commentary. By fortunate chance, a small Arabic fragment of the middle commentary has also been preserved, containing a summary of its contents; this fragment has been included as an appendix to the present volume.
