For a long time, we had been considering preparing a booklet that could answer our patients' most common questions about lumbar disc herniation. Eventually, we put into words the simple yet valuable experiences we have gained throughout our professional lives-practical knowledge we believe will be of real help to people. Our primary goal was to provide clear, useful information that anyone could benefit from. Therefore, instead of an overly academic style and Latin terminology, we chose a simple, easy-to-understand approach supported by illustrations. As the marble plaque on the wall of Harvard Medical School reminds us: "Life is short, the art is long."
